From high in the sky will come the skiers | Stuff.co.nz

GRANT BRYANT IN QUEENSTOWN

The biggest Parklife Invitational event in its 10-year history in Queenstown will launch into action tomorrow evening.

More than 30 of New Zealand's top skiers and snowboarders will be hitting a 40-metre ramp from a height of more than 6 metres to pull their most extreme tricks - all in the hope of earning cash prizes and bragging rights.

This year the event will be held in the Queenstown Recreation Ground, and will tie in with other new events happening this year.

Top motocross and Redbull-sponsored rider Nick Franklin flew into Queenstown yesterday to prepare for a demonstration that will culminate in what organisers are calling a "spectacular" first for New Zealand.

Remarkables Ski Area terrain park manager Bryan Shaw explained: "We'll have riders and skiers hitting the main ramp, but also have Nick jumping over and across the main ramp as they're on it, which should be a mind-blower."

As well as the action on the ramps, DJs and MCs will be providing a soundtrack from a booth built 6 metres above the main ramp.

An after-party at Shotover St's World Bar will give the public the chance to mix and mingle with the athletes following a 9pm prize-giving at the recreation ground.
